"As a parent, it's like you do whatever you can to protect your kids, but I never expected this in a kindergarten class,"
"I asked where the paraprofessional was, they said they sent her home, and then I asked where the police were, and they said they do not contact the police; that they were doing an internal investigation,"
"I think I was numb, I just kind of stared at her."
A kindergarten aide at John Fenwick Academy in Salem allegedly grabbed a 5-year-old, forced her into a chair, and slammed her head into a metal cabinet, leaving visible bruises on the girl's legs, arms and neck. The girl's mother, Mariah, received a call about misbehavior around noon and was summoned less than two hours later when school officials informed her of the incident. A staff witness filed a police report describing the alleged assault. School officials reportedly sent the paraprofessional home and initially said they would conduct an internal investigation without contacting police. The child is shaken and reluctant to return to school.
