(AP Photo/Pamela Smith, File) We are fortunate to have a deep bench of talented commentators who will step in and fill these roles, Solomon continued. Mary is one of the most experienced Olympic commentators ever and a master storyteller. She and Terry will lead the American audience through one of the world's greatest global moments."
Mary Carillo will replace Savannah Guthrie as co-host of NBC's coverage of the Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony, joining Terry Gannon in Milan. Molly Solomon, president of NBC Olympics Production, confirmed the assignment and noted Carillo's extensive Olympic experience. NBC said Carillo's role will be her 17th Olympic assignment and 14th with NBCUniversal and offered support to Guthrie and her family. Guthrie canceled travel plans after her mother, 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, went missing; authorities launched an urgent search. NBC also kept Today co-host Craig Melvin stateside, assigning NBC Sports reporter Ahmed Fareed to host Olympic Late Night in his place.
