Growing concerns among U.S. politicians have led to calls for American colleges to terminate their partnerships with Chinese institutions. Representatives John Moolenar and Tim Walberg voiced their concerns in letters to the presidents of local universities, arguing that collaborations pose risks to U.S. research integrity and could enhance Chinese military capabilities. Following the recent cancellation of a significant partnership by the University of Michigan, the pressure persists for other institutions to reevaluate their ties with Chinese universities due to worries about the exploitation of sensitive technology.
Moolenar and Walberg wrote in all three letters. "You must immediately terminate these collaborations."
