Minneapolis settles with woman who alleged Derek Chauvin kneeled on her back
Briefly

Minneapolis has reached a $600,000 settlement with Patty Day, who accused former officer Derek Chauvin of using excessive force during a January 2020 incident. Day, who was intoxicated at the time due to personal struggles, claimed she was forcibly removed from her minivan, pinned to the ground, and injured. This agreement contributes to over $36 million that the city has paid in settlements related to Chauvin's controversial conduct, underscoring a troubling pattern of police misconduct ignored by city officials. The lawsuit also noted that her DWI charge was later dismissed due to lack of probable cause.
For Chauvin, such misconduct was par for the course. He was a long-troubled officer with a documented pattern of misconduct to which MPD and City leaders willfully turned a blind eye.
Day argued in the lawsuit that Chauvin and his partner violently pulled Day from her vehicle and Chauvin then assumed his signature pose, pressing his knee into the subdued and handcuffed Patty's back.
