The Cornell Board of Trustees has appointed Michael I. Kotlikoff as the university's 15th president, effective immediately. Having served as interim president since July 2024 and holding a faculty position for 25 years, his leadership is seen as vital during uncertain times for higher education. Kotlikoff's tenure is marked by a commitment to fostering connection on campus and a focus on Cornell's core principles. He has significant experience in academia, having held various leadership positions within the university including dean and provost of the College of Veterinary Medicine.
Over the last eight months as interim president - and his 25 years on Cornell's faculty - Mike has demonstrated the leadership and vision that the university needs right now.
I'm committed to finishing my career here, leading an institution I love through these challenging times. As higher education across the U.S. navigates difficult political, financial and societal headwinds, I hope to guide Cornell in ways that reflect our core principles as an institution committed to doing 'the greatest good.'
