Miami knocks off Ohio St., marches on in CFP
"We knew coming into today that it wasn't going to be easy,"
"That's a damn good football team on the other side right there. It was a battle. It took all four quarters until the very last minute. And I'm just so proud of how we fought adversity and continued to fight throughout the game."
No. 10 Miami upset defending champion Ohio State 24-14 in the Cotton Bowl quarterfinal to reach the College Football Playoff final four. Keionte Scott returned an interception 72 yards for a touchdown and Carson Beck threw a scoring pass as Miami overcame adversity. The Hurricanes earned an at-large berth and, with one more win, would play for a national championship in their home stadium. Ohio State entered the playoff as the betting favorite and sought back-to-back titles but was eliminated. Miami will face the winner of the Sugar Bowl matchup between Georgia and Ole Miss in the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 8.
