Situated in South Korea, Abai Village was founded by displaced North Korean refugees during the Korean War, hoping to return home but faced with the reality of permanent resettlement.
The refugees of Abai Village initially built temporary shelters on muddy land, expecting a temporary stay post-war, but were unable to return following the Korean Armistice Agreement in 1953.
