"Made with two of the spiciest chili peppers in the world, the Carolina Reaper Pepper and Scorpion Pepper, this straight-from-hell chip now turns your tongue blue as a badge of honor to prove you completed the challenge!"
"Do not eat if you are sensitive to spicy foods, allergic to peppers, nightshades or capsaicin, or are pregnant or have any medical conditions," the company says. "After touching the chip, wash your hands with soap and do not touch your eyes or other sensitive areas. Seek medical assistance should you experience difficulty breathing, fainting or extended nausea."
A 14-year-old 10th grader in Worcester, Massachusetts, ate a Paqui One Chip Challenge corn chip infused with the Carolina Reaper pepper and later died. The student reportedly ate the chip at school, visited the nurse's office, went home, fainted, and was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Officials have not determined whether the chip caused the death. Paqui and parent company Amplify market the chips as made with Carolina Reaper and Scorpion peppers and include a warning that the product is not for children and advises seeking medical assistance for difficulty breathing, fainting, or extended nausea.
