Arrested on charges including resisting arrest, Mitchell was found to have illegally kept the tigers without proper permits for two years. A SWAT team was involved in the seizure, as Mitchell refused to provide access to the cages. Authorities had been investigating Mitchell's ownership of large cats for several years, and he was also found in possession of a handgun despite being a felon.
