A man in his 70s has been arrested in connection with a serious assault on a mobility scooter driver, a man in his 60s, who sustained critical head injuries following the altercation. This incident occurred at Whiteleas Way roundabout, where it was reported that the older man, driving a Nissan Micra, exited his vehicle and punched the victim. Emergency services responded, and the victim was taken to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Northumbria Police said officers received a report shortly before 3.30pm on Saturday of a serious assault at Whiteleas Way roundabout.
Emergency services attended the scene and the victim, a man in his 60s, was taken to hospital with serious head injuries.
Northumbria Police has appealed to the public for information and the force said on Sunday that it was keen to trace any witnesses who were in the area at the time.
