Lavender, citrus and candy: weed's signature aroma changes with the times
Briefly

District Cannabis in Hagerstown, Maryland, is at the forefront of evolving cannabis cultivation, producing 15,000 pounds annually. Founder Andras Kirschner highlights a shift towards cannabis strains with pleasant scents like fruits and herbs, aimed at enhancing the recreational experience. Pamela Dalton, a smell scientist, notes that consumers increasingly prefer enjoyable aromas, prompting growers to hybridize plants for better scent profiles to suit relaxation purposes. Kirschner's award-winning strains exemplify this trend, as evidenced during tours of the facility where the diverse fragrant profiles intrigue cannabis lovers.
"It's our weed factory - a dream come true," says Andras Kirschner, founder and head grower. Inside, the earthy smell and botanical notes are evident.
"People take all sorts of drugs that are unpleasant to taste or smell, but for recreation, you want something pleasurable in all facets," says Pamela Dalton.
"That's driving some of the hybridization and evolution [of cannabis] - to make something you like smelling, that's pleasant and reinforces the ease of relaxation."
