""He was murdered by someone who could not stand the sight of two men loving each other," Kern de Gonzales wrote in a statement on Joss's Facebook page. "I was with him when he passed. I told him how much he was loved.""
""My house burned down three months ago because I'm gay," he told the crowd."
"A spokesperson for the San Antonio Police Department said they found "no evidence whatsoever" that Joss's shooting was a hate crime."
Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez was indicted by a grand jury on one count of murder for the June 1 shooting death of Jonathan Joss. Joss was shot while retrieving mail from his former residence. Ceja Alvarez was arrested in June, shortly after the killing, and police say he "immediately" confessed when detained. Joss's spouse, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, identified Ceja Alvarez as the shooter and said the killing followed years of homophobic threats, writing that Joss "was murdered by someone who could not stand the sight of two men loving each other." A San Antonio Police Department spokesperson said investigators found "no evidence whatsoever" that the shooting was a hate crime.
