"From what I understand based on my conversation with the FBI director, all they know right now is that this was an individual who hated people of the Mormon faith, Leavitt said. They are trying to understand more about this, how premeditated it was, how much planning went into it, whether he left a note, all of those questions are yet to be answered but certainly will be answered by the FBI."
"Authorities identified the suspect as 40-year-old Thomas Jacob Sanford, a former Marine from Burton, Michigan. Police say Sanford drove his truck into the church in Grand Blanc Township before opening fire on hundreds of worshippers gathered for Sunday service. He also appeared to set the building ablaze using an accelerant, and bomb squads were later called after improvised explosive devices were discovered at the site. Sanford was killed after exchanging fire with officers."
