Judge says Kennedy Center board broke law putting Trump's name on building, blocks closure
A U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper ruled that Donald Trump’s name was illegally added to the Kennedy Center and barred the administration from closing the venue for major renovations. The Kennedy Center board’s March 16 vote to close the facility was deemed “ill-informed and seemingly preordained” and lacking regard for legal obligations. The administration had planned to start work in July and complete it in about two years, but the ruling halted those plans. Cooper found the board “overstepped its statutory bounds” by unilaterally adding Trump’s name, noting Congress alone can change the institution’s name. He ordered removal of Trump’s name from the facade and official materials within two weeks. Trump responded by saying he was backing away from the proposed renovation and returning control to Congress.
"Unless I am free to do what I do better than anyone else, bring this Institution back, physically, financially, and artistically, I have no interest in continuing what could only be a hopeless journey into 'NEVER NEVER LAND,'" Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform."
