Thousands of Afghan parolees in the Bay Area have received disturbing letters from DHS demanding they leave the U.S. within seven days. This directive, which threatens legal work permits, has triggered widespread fear among these individuals, many of whom are former collaborators with U.S. military forces in Afghanistan. Community advocates argue that this action is a scare tactic aimed at coercing these vetted refugees into self-deportation. The atmosphere of fear has heightened to the point that families are afraid to engage in everyday activities, reflecting the despair within the Afghan community.
The fact these notices went out same days we welcomed these Afrikaners from South Africa is so egregious. And really to me, is a scare tactic to have these refugees to have them self deport.
The fear and the emotions were really raw for a lot of people who did not go outside, did not go grocery shopping, did not do their normal activities for fear of being picked up by ICE.
