Wichita workers average a 17.3-minute one-way commute (35.6 minutes daily), roughly 10 minutes shorter than the national one-way average of 27.2 minutes (54.4 minutes daily). Kansas statewide one-way average is about 20 minutes. Wichita's average fell slightly from 18.2 minutes in 2014, while the statewide average remained near 19.2 minutes. Remote work rose after the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, with over 22 million Americans and 153,000 Kansans working from home in 2024; 13,237 remote workers lived in Wichita. Solo driving is the most common commute mode; public transit is least common.
