The National Security Agency (NSA) is investigating sexually explicit messages posted on Intelink, a chat tool used across the intelligence community. This investigation follows the discovery of inappropriate content that has led to the dismissal of more than 100 officers. NSA officials stated that misconduct of this nature is unacceptable on any system they manage. Concerns arose over the integrity of disclosed chat logs, including claims of alterations and the potential misrepresentation of the conversations that took place. At least one offending chat room was shut down last year.
"Behavior of this type will not be tolerated on this or any other N.S.A.-hosted system," stated a NSA spokesman regarding the sexually explicit messages exchanged on Intelink.
"Some context was removed from the exchanges and screenshots in other instances might not have been accurate representations," said people familiar with the inquiry, highlighting concerns of altered chat logs.
