In California, Tribal Members Are Reclaiming the Land of the Flowing Water'
Briefly

European settlers took over Owens Valley, causing Native Americans to lose access to their land and eventually the water supply. Los Angeles built an aqueduct to redirect water, leading to the transformation of the city into a metropolis.
Today, Owens Lake has turned into saline pools and wetlands due to the diversion of water. Native American tribes in the area have been left with less than 2,000 acres of reservation land.
Despite the historical loss, tribal members are now reclaiming parts of Owens Valley, inspired by the Land Back movement sweeping the nation. This movement aims to return land to Indigenous stewardship.
