"he confirmed reports that there were ICE agents arresting street vendors, and asked local residents to be vigilant for other ICE operations that may happen around the city. Please, please, please make noise when you see ICE agents anywhere, Marte said. It's going to help us as elected officials and advocates with rapid response to make sure we can get to the scene, provide resources and add accountability."
ICE agents returned to Chinatown on Nov. 22, arriving around noon near Canal Street and Broadway while the NYPD conducted a routine vendor enforcement operation. The NYPD said it confiscated more than 25 bags of counterfeit trademark items and that the federal agents' operation was unrelated; NYPD personnel left without interacting with ICE. Several vendors scattered and at least one person was arrested, with abandoned items picked up and vouched by the NYPD. Council Member Christopher Marte came to the scene, confirmed arrests on Instagram, urged residents to make noise and be vigilant. The incident followed an Oct. 21 ICE raid that detained multiple people, including citizens, and sparked protests.
