Hyundai's Savannah, Georgia Metaplant manufactures the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 9 electric SUVs across a 16 million square-foot facility. Law enforcement officers, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, detained about 475 people at the site, most reported to be South Korean nationals without legal status. Hyundai stated that none of the detained individuals are directly employed by Hyundai Motor Company and that many appear to have been working for LG Energy Solution at the adjacent battery facility. Hyundai said vehicle assembly will not be affected, affirmed commitment to legal compliance, and indicated a review of partner and contractor processes.
