A hydrothermal explosion sent a towering column of boiling water, mud, and rock into the air at Yellowstone, causing panic among tourists, destroying a boardwalk section, but fortunately, resulting in no injuries.
Vlada March, a witness who recorded the event, described the sudden dark cloud of rocks covering the sun, prompting tourists, including children, to run for safety.
The incident, a few miles from Old Faithful Geyser, was identified as a hydrothermal event near Black Diamond Pool, distinct from the usual geyser activity at the park.
