'Helping every dang soul': Beloved camp director was among those lost in Texas flooding
Briefly

Jane Ragsdale drowned in a flood on July Fourth, devastating the Kerrville, Texas community. Known for her friendliness and generosity, she was the owner and director of Heart O' the Hills camp for girls, a camp significantly impacted by her leadership. Ragsdale started helping with the camp at age 9, eventually taking charge in 1988. While other camps faced tragedy during the flood, Ragsdale was the only casualty at Heart O' the Hills. Friends describe her as the embodiment of community spirit and a dedicated mentor to the young campers.
"I can't tell you how many people, acquaintances of mine say, 'My dear, dear friend died.' And then they said, 'Did you know Jane Ragsdale?'"
"I've never in my life met someone like Jane. We had a candlelight service on the river at 9 p.m., and it was so beautiful."
