US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth disclosed sensitive information about a March attack on Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis in a Signal group chat involving family members and personal associates. This was part of a broader pattern, as another chat included error-prone recipients like The Atlantic's editor-in-chief. Pentagon officials dismissed allegations of impropriety, with spokesperson Sean Parnell labeling reports as 'Trump-hating media.' Hegseth and President Trump both rejected claims of misconduct, defending the administration’s actions against reports of sensitive information leaking.
Last month, it was revealed that in a separate Signal chat, Hegseth shared operational information regarding an attack on Houthis in Yemen in a group that had mistakenly included The Atlantic magazine's editor-in-chief.
Hegseth himself claimed later on Monday, 'They take anonymous sources from disgruntled former employees and then they try to slash and burn people and ruin their reputations.'
Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell accused The New York Times of being 'Trump-hating media.' Parnell stated, 'There was no classified information in any Signal chat, no matter how many ways they try to write the story.'
President Trump has also stood by Hegseth, saying 'he's doing a great job' and dismissing the reports as 'just fake news.'
