Hamas has indicated its readiness to release an Israeli-American hostage, Idan Alexander, along with the bodies of four other dual-national Americans held since the October 7 attacks. This statement follows recent direct talks between the U.S. and Hamas, marking a shift in U.S. policy. Negotiations continue in Qatar for a new ceasefire, with Hamas seeking commitments from Israel for a lasting truce in exchange for all hostages. Currently, 59 hostages are still held by Hamas, with ongoing uncertainty about the release timeline and conditions.
Hamas has stated numerous times in recent weeks it is ready to release all the hostages it holds dead and alive in one go if Israel agrees to end the war permanently and withdraw its troops from Gaza.
The statement comes after the U.S. has, in recent weeks, held direct talks with Hamas, a major shift in U.S. policy.
