Fired USAid workers and HIV activists hold die-in' to protest Trump and Musk
Briefly

A protest at the Capitol highlighted fears that the Trump administration's cuts to USAid threaten global efforts against HIV. Demonstrators, including fired USAid employees and advocates, rallied against funding cuts while stressing the importance of the agency in humanitarian efforts. The US government had recently placed a significant number of USAid employees on paid leave, and a federal judge demanded the release of frozen foreign aid funds. Advocates argued that failure to restore these funds could jeopardize crucial progress made in combating the virus.
What we are demanding of Congress is that they stop behaving like doormats in the face of this attack on humanitarian assistance that truly is highly effective and life-saving, Asia Russell, executive director of Health Gap, said prior to the protest.
The protest came as USAid remained frozen by the Trump administration's rapid moves to close the agency, which is set to be turned into office space for US Customs and Border Protection.
