South Korea's air force has issued an apology following a distressing incident during a training exercise, where a KF-16 aircraft mistakenly released eight bombs outside the designated range. The bombing injured several civilians, including serious injuries to four individuals, and damaged residential properties and a church. This occurred in Pocheon during a joint live-fire drill with the United States. The air force has initiated an investigation and pledged to compensate the affected civilians, expressing deep regret for the unintended consequences of the exercise and extending wishes for a swift recovery to the injured.
We deeply regret the unintended release of the bombs, which resulted in civilian casualties, and wish those injured a swift recovery, the air force said in its statement.
The bombs were presumed to have fallen on a village during a South Korea-US joint exercise, resulting in many displaced residents and damage to one church building and sections of two houses.
I suddenly heard an enormous explosion, like a thunderclap, and the whole house shook. When I went outside, everything was in chaos, Park said.
A sudden explosion shook the building. The windows shattered, and one of our teachers was injured and taken to the hospital, the centre's director, surnamed Yu, told Yonhap.
