"I was behind the line, trying to show what was happening, and they pushed me and sprayed me in the eye."
"I was behind the line."
"I yelled I am press don't push me, he shoved me again. And then I was sprayed."
Jana Shortal, a long-time KARE 11 reporter and anchor, was behind police tape and clearly marked as press when federal immigration agents shoved and sprayed her in the eye as she complied with an order to move back. Shortal lost her glasses in the commotion. The incident occurred minutes after federal agents sprayed, beat and fatally shot Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen and ICU nurse who worked at the Minneapolis VA hospital. Shortal returned to the studio and recounted a violent, chaotic scene driven largely by the actions and aggressive commands of the federal agents.
