Families of Patients Who Died Sue Hospital After Fentanyl Was Swapped With Water
Briefly

The families of nine patients who died and nine who survived after contracting bacterial infections at a southern Oregon hospital have sued the hospital, claiming negligence for not preventing a nurse from stealing fentanyl in IV drips and replacing it with tap water.
The former nurse, Dani Marie Schofield, was arrested and is facing 44 counts of second-degree assault after it was revealed she swapped tap water for fentanyl, causing infections.
The lawsuit alleges the hospital failed to detect the theft of fentanyl, resulting in unbearable pain for patients who were deprived of their prescribed pain relief.
Authorities did not charge Schofield with murder since they could not directly link the patients' deaths to the infections caused by the contaminated IV bags.
