E-commerce Giant Shein Removes Image of Accused CEO Killer Luigi Mangione as Model
Briefly

Shein removed an image from its website that appeared to show Luigi Mangione modeling a white floral button-down shirt and is investigating the listing. The image appears to be either photoshopped or AI-generated. Shein said the image was provided by a third-party vendor, was removed immediately upon discovery, and that the company is conducting a thorough investigation while strengthening monitoring processes and will take action against the vendor. UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was gunned down on Dec. 4 in Midtown Manhattan; his killer fled on a CitiBike into Central Park. Mangione was arrested in Altoona, Pennsylvania, after a five-day manhunt and has pleaded not guilty to charges including first-degree murder and firearm possession.
Shein is investigating after a photo on the e-commerce powerhouse's website appeared to show the suspected CEO killer modeling its clothes. Consumers looking to purchase a white floral button-down shirt were faced with the image of Mangione in a scene that sent shockwaves across social media. The image appears to be either photoshopped or AI-generated. Shein denied knowingly using Mangione's likeness in its ad, saying it took down the image once it was found.
In a statement to TMZ, Shein said: The image in question was provided by a third-party vendor and was removed immediately upon discovery. We have stringent standards for all listings on our platform. We are conducting a thorough investigation, strengthening our monitoring processes, and will take appropriate action against the vendor in line with our policies.
