China has dismissed allegations from Australia regarding insufficient notice before live-fire naval drills took place in international waters. These drills, occurring between Australia and New Zealand, resulted in three flight diversions. Australian officials raised concerns about the lack of notice per best practices, though they acknowledged no violations of international law. China's Defense Ministry spokesperson insisted that proper notifications were issued and criticized Australia's response as exaggerated and unfounded, expressing surprise and dissatisfaction at their complaints despite affirming that air safety was not compromised.
"During the period, China organized live-fire training of naval guns toward the sea on the basis of repeatedly issuing prior safety notices," Wu said in a statement.
"Australia, fully knowing this, made unreasonable accusations against China and deliberately hyped it up," Wu said. "We are deeply surprised and strongly dissatisfied."
