A car was stolen from Heywood Hospital in Gardner, Massachusetts, with a child inside. The suspect ordered the child out shortly after taking the vehicle and fled the scene. Using cellphone data, police tracked the vehicle's movements, but opted not to pursue for safety reasons when the suspect drove erratically upon seeing police. The abandoned vehicle was later found by Lowell Police, and while the suspect has been identified, the investigation is still active without a public name release.
On Monday afternoon, a suspect allegedly stole a car parked at a hospital in Gardner that had a child inside. After traveling a short distance, he ordered the child out of the vehicle, and they exited unharmed.
Police utilized data from a cellphone left inside the vehicle to track its location and monitored its movements on Route 2 and Interstate 495 north. When the suspect saw police cruisers from a distance, he began operating erratically.
State Police chose not to pursue the vehicle for the safety of other motorists. Later, Lowell Police located the abandoned vehicle in their city.
Authorities have identified the suspect and the investigation into his whereabouts is ongoing, although his name has not been released.
