Call of Duty creator Vince Zampella dies in Ferrari crash aged 55
"From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging."
"Vince Zampella, one of the co-creators of the bestselling Call of Duty video game franchise, has died in a car wreck. He was 55 years old. The designer was one of the cofounders of pioneering games studio Infinity Ward, and also worked on a string of high-profile games including Medal of Honor, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Battlefield 6. NBC reports that Zampella was killed Sunday afternoon in a single-car crash on the Angeles Crest Highway in the San Gabriel Mountains, Southern California."
The Independent covers reproductive rights, climate change and Big Tech and sends reporters to developing stories. It produces documentaries such as 'The A Word', remains free of paywalls and asks donors to fund field reporting so quality journalism is paid for by those who can afford it. Vince Zampella, 55, died in a single-car crash on the Angeles Crest Highway in the San Gabriel Mountains when a 2026 Ferrari 296 GTS veered off the road, hit a concrete barrier and caught fire; Zampella died at the scene and an unnamed passenger later died in hospital. Zampella co-founded Infinity Ward and worked on Call of Duty, Medal of Honor and Battlefield 6.
