A person detained after a Brown University mass shooting that killed two students and injured nine has been released after investigators shifted direction. Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha said there is no basis to consider the man a person of interest. The FBI activated a cellular analysis survey team to provide geolocation capabilities. Law enforcement detained the individual about 17 miles from Providence at a hotel in Coventry based on a Providence police lead. Providence police had initially said they were not searching for anyone else. The release leaves no known suspect and authorities will canvass surveillance video to identify the killer. The shooting occurred during final exams in the engineering building.
