Brazil rejects US request to designate two gangs as terrorist organizations
Briefly

The Brazilian government, represented by national public security secretary Mario Sarrubo, has rejected a US request to classify the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) and Comando Vermelho (CV) as terrorist organizations. This decision stems from Brazilian law, which defines terrorism narrowly as organizations clashing with the government for religious or racial reasons. The meeting in Brasilia reflected US concerns about these gangs' transnational presence, especially as they relate to immigration issues. The US aims to impose sanctions and address the threat posed by such gangs, which they claim have cells across 12 US states.
We don't have terrorist organizations here, we have criminal organizations that have infiltrated society.
US officials said a terrorist designation could help the government apply sanctions, raise resources and target criminal supply chains.
