"Mostly likely there were three distinct tornadoes, but we won't know 100 percent for sure until they finish the survey. The storms rapidly intensified in southern Michigan after hitting northern Indiana."
"It's lifting houses! Oh my heart is pounding. Oh, I hope they're OK. Trees were torn from their roots and debris flew into the air as a funnel cloud formed and dropped toward the ground."
Severe thunderstorms spawned multiple tornadoes across southern Michigan on Friday, resulting in four deaths including a 12-year-old boy, with two additional deaths reported in eastern Oklahoma. First responders searched the Union Lake area near Union City for possible victims while clearing debris and flattened homes. The National Weather Service estimated three distinct tornadoes likely occurred, with storms rapidly intensifying after moving from northern Indiana into southern Michigan. Three people died and twelve were injured in the Union Lake area alone. Severe weather threats continued Saturday across the nation's midsection, extending from Texas through Ohio to western Pennsylvania and New York.
