Aryna Sabalenka wins second straight US Open title DW 09/07/2025
"Top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka retained her US Open title with a straight-sets victory in New York on Saturday. The Belarusian won 6-3, 7-6(3) over home crowd favorite Amanda Anisimova, the No. 8 seed. Two months ago, the pair faced each other in their semifinal match at Wimbledon. The world No. 1 lost in three sets to Anisimova, who was later thrashed by Poland's Iga Swiatek and became the first player to lose a Wimbledon final 6-0, 6-0 for more than a century."
""First of all, I want to say congrats, Amanda, for reaching back-to-back finals on the slams. I know how much it hurts, losing in finals, but the moment you win your first one, (you will understand). You're going to win it; you play incredible tennis," said Sabalenka. The 27-year-old Belarusian lost in both the Australian Open and French Open finals. Sabalenka is the first woman to win back-to-back US Opens since Serena Williams claimed three consecutive titles from 2012 to 2014."
Top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka retained the US Open women's singles title with a straight-sets victory in New York, defeating Amanda Anisimova 6-3, 7-6(3). The pair previously met in the Wimbledon semifinal two months earlier, where Anisimova won in three sets before losing a lopsided final to Iga Swiatek. Sabalenka has now lost previous finals at the Australian Open and French Open but secured consecutive US Open titles, the first woman to do so since Serena Williams. The men's final will feature Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz meeting again, marking their third consecutive Grand Slam final matchup this season. US President Donald Trump is expected to attend the final.
