"Crazy things happen all over the world and nothing really hits home until it actually hits directly home," he told Mississippi Public Broadcasting."
"When it hits home, it's just hard. Honestly, I'm still trying to wrap my own head around it."
"All contents in that library are destroyed. There's not much that can be retrieved from the library area. The other portions of the building do not have actual fire damage, but they have damage as far as smoke and soot," he said."
A person has been charged with arson after a fire severely damaged Beth Israel Congregation in Jackson, Mississippi early Saturday morning. The Jackson Fire Department, the ATF and the FBI are investigating. Flames and smoke caused extensive damage and destroyed the synagogue's library, where the fire started, leaving little retrievable from that area. The fire destroyed two Torahs and damaged five others; a Holocaust-surviving Torah was protected by glass and was not harmed. The Tree of Life plaque and many library and administrative records were lost. The congregation of about 150 families traces its founding to 1860. No one was injured.
