America's college chaos
Briefly

The federal government is exerting pressure on higher education institutions concerning diversity and race-related policies, with the Education Department warning potential funding losses for non-compliance. In response, numerous universities, including Colorado State University and the University of Pennsylvania, are already initiating changes, such as altering HR policies and removing diversity programs. This trend has intensified since the previous administration and is compounded by various compliance efforts regarding NCAA bans on trans athletes and investigations into campus protests. These changes reflect a broader chaos within higher education impacting academic programs and cultural centers.
The federal government is coming for higher education said Jeremy Young, the Freedom to Learn program director for PEN America. If you stick your neck out, it's going to get cut off.
In a letter to schools last month, the Education Department said they could lose funding if they have policies related to race and diversity.
Several colleges had already started cutting programs, shuttering cultural centers and changing up course catalogs even before Trump took office.
Universities are also working to comply with the NCAA's new ban on trans athletes, with many fielding investigations over former trans athletes that competed on their teams.
