The problem began at 3:30 pm Pacific Time on October 23 with a 'failure' at the company's primary data center. Alaska Airlines said the outage was not a cybersecurity event or related to 'any other events.' The outage prompted a systemwide ground stop for Alaska and Horizon Air flights, while Hawaiian Airlines was apparently unaffected. The ground stop lasted until 11:30 pm Pacific Time and resulted in more than 229 cancellations, with additional disruptions expected during aircraft and crew repositioning. Customers reported long hold times and stranded passengers. Alaska postponed its Q3 2025 financial conference call. Q3 revenue was $3.8 billion and net income fell to $73 million.
