The immense size of Los Angeles makes it feel like different crises occur in separate states, with the reality of fire danger often overlooked by outsiders.
Even living in Hollywood, I initially dismissed the dangers of nearby fires until I experienced the urgent threat first-hand, reinforcing the unpredictability of such disasters.
During the recent fires, I was initially unconcerned because we were miles away, but witnessing fire approaching my neighborhood was a stark reminder of our vulnerability.
Returning home after the evacuations, I understood that in Los Angeles, few areas are truly immune to the imminent threat of wildfires.
