"If Mayor Wallace's seat becomes vacant, City Council could decide to hold a special election or appoint someone to fill the seat for the remainder of her term,"
"I am telling the truth and admitting what I have done,"
"lie, hide, and delay the consequences."
Tamara Wallace confessed to embezzling funds from a Presbyterian Church where she worked as an administrator and said the theft occurred over an extended period. She attempted suicide on Sept. 11, her birthday, and has been staying in a mental-health facility receiving medication and participating in group and individual therapy. After the suicide attempt she provided the pastor with account numbers and passwords. The El Dorado County district attorney is investigating the stolen funds and the confession. City officials note her mayoral term runs until 2026 and a vacancy could prompt a special election or appointment. Wallace described childhood abuse and the grief of losing her son to fentanyl.
