On Tuesday, she used her response to make an extended appeal for less divisive politics. She said it was a tragedy that we have someone who wants to be president who has, consistently, over the course of his career, attempted to use race to divide the American people.
I think the American people want better than that, Ms. Harris said. Ms. Harris's father was born in Jamaica, and her mother was born in India. She has long embraced both her Black and South Asian identity.
