After CFP snub, Notre Dame AD says relationship with ACC has suffered 'permanent damage'
""We were mystified by the actions of the conference, to attack, you know, their biggest, really, business partner in football and a member of their conference in 24 of our other sports," Bevacqua said. "And I wouldn't be honest with you if I didn't say that they have certainly done permanent damage to the relationship between the conference and Notre Dame.""
"Notre Dame opened the season Aug. 31 with a 27-24 loss at Miami, followed by a one-point loss to Texas A&M the next week. But the Irish went 10-0 to finish the season, beating their opponents by an average of nearly 30 points (a number that was bolstered by their 70-7 win over Syracuse on Nov. 22)."
Notre Dame finished the regular season on a 10-game winning streak after opening with two narrow losses and averaged nearly 30 points per game in victories, including a 70-7 win over Syracuse. Miami jumped past Notre Dame in the final CFP rankings to claim the last at-large playoff spot, leaving Notre Dame out of the 12-team field. Athletic director Pete Bevacqua publicly accused the ACC of attacking Notre Dame and said those actions caused permanent damage to the conference partnership. Notre Dame declined all bowl invitations and abruptly ended its season.
