A town wanted answers after a K-9 died. His officer was charged.

Prosecutors allege that Zeigler went into his house after his shift and left K9 Officer Horus inside his SUV for hours in 90-degree heat.

Jamie Marcum, a concerned resident, emphasized, 'There is no reason on God's green earth that an officer that negligently kills his partner... should be allowed to continue on in a law enforcement career.'

'I trusted this K-9 around my grandchildren and they adored him,' said Police Chief David Vincent about Horus, underscoring the loss felt in the community.

Emily Grey, CEO of Spike's K-9 Fund, remarked she had never heard of a K-9 handler being criminally charged for their dog's death, highlighting the severity of this case.
