A sitatunga antelope named Lief died after choking on a red cap from a fruit pouch, violating the zoo's policy against such items near animal habitats.
Brights Zoo visitors expressed sadness and frustration as the individual responsible for leaving the packaging, against zoo rules, remained unidentified.
The 7-year-old Lief, who had a typical lifespan of around 22 years in captivity, was born in Texas and had plenty of life left, according to the zoo's post.
