A new 'mini-moon' comes to Earth this fall
Briefly

The asteroid 2024 PT5 will be temporarily captured by Earth's gravity, traveling in a horseshoe path for about two months, from Sept. 29 to Nov. 25.
Named a 'mini-moon', 2024 PT5 might not fully orbit Earth, as it will later be pulled back by the sun’s gravity after about two months.
Though 2024 PT5 won't be visible to the naked eye due to its small size, professional telescopes can observe it for scientific study.
This occurrence isn't unique; similar previous captures have happened, like mini-moon 2020 CD3, which orbited Earth for over a year.
