A giant schnauzer named Monty has won the top prize at the Westminster Kennel Club
Briefly

Monty, a giant schnauzer, clinched the top prize at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show, competing against various breeds like bichons and German shepherds. This achievement marks Monty's third consecutive finals appearance, emphasizing the significance of the Westminster as the pinnacle of dog shows in the U.S. Each competing dog represents a breed ideal, and while winning brings prestige and trophies, there is no cash prize involved. Beyond the competition, many dogs like Monty also serve in therapy or search-and-rescue roles, showcasing their versatility.
"A good German shepherd is an all-purpose dog," said co-breeder and co-owner Sheree Moses Combs. Some of her pups have become service dogs for wounded veterans, not just show dogs.
"I've been struck by this breed since I was 12. ... They're so unique," owner Yves Belmont said, highlighting the 158-pound Neapolitan mastiff's imposing presence and intelligence.
