A blaze broke out after midnight at the crowded Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana during New Year's celebrations. About 40 partygoers died and roughly 115 were injured, many of them in their teens to mid-20s. A 16-year-old escaped by forcing open a window; two or three of his friends remained missing hours later. Mourners left candles and flowers and hundreds prayed at a nearby church. Representatives from France and Italy said nationals were among the missing. Authorities are identifying the dead, informing families, and investigating causes while saying no attack is suspected.
