Daniel Walterhouse, a Civil War veteran, lived a life of hardship after serving, and thanks to two middle-schoolers, he's finally received the respect he deserves.
"It was sad to think of all he'd been through in his life, and he didn't even have a headstone," said Kendall Peruzzini, highlighting the emotional impact of Walterhouse's forgotten legacy.
Mary McCormick stated, "We thought it would be an honor to help him get the respect and recognition he deserved," emphasizing their motivation to honor a neglected soldier.
Tim Archer, the retired teacher who inspired the project, was approached by a researcher and comments on how crucial it is to remember the fallen soldiers.
