$45M Thruway upgrade wraps up in Chautauqua County | Fingerlakes1.com
"The $45 million infrastructure project upgraded nearly 70 lane miles of the New York State Thruway between Fredonia and Westfield. Crews resurfaced eastbound and westbound lanes between exits 59 and 60, repaired ramps and U-turns, and added new asphalt to extend the road's lifespan. Sixteen bridges along the stretch also received vertical clearance improvements to help prevent future bridge strikes - a growing issue across the state."
"According to the New York State Thruway Authority, the project was completed as scheduled and within its original budget. Additional upgrades included new guiderails, striping, pier protections, and other safety enhancements designed to keep drivers safe year-round. "This project made critical safety improvements to a stretch of the Thruway that is traveled by nearly eight million vehicles each year," said Thruway Authority Executive Director Frank G. Hoare. "We're committed to modernizing our highway system through strategic reinvestment of toll dollars.""
"The work is part of a broader $2.7 billion capital plan that targets 61% of the Thruway's pavement lane miles and 20% of its 819 bridges for repair or replacement by 2029. The Thruway - funded entirely by tolls, not tax dollars - is one of the nation's safest and most affordable toll roads, according to the agency. Motorists can track real-time traffic conditions, construction updates, and travel alerts using the Thruway's free mobile app or online Traveler Map."
